Oh my gosh, welcome, welcome back, a moment in time for Odds and Ends. This is season two with the friends, episode one, and I can't I mean even wrap my head around. We're bringing it back. People thought maybe never, but here I am with Mark and Ed, my two bestest of buddies in this realm, that we took it from crypto into real life, right, giving everybody a little bit of the backstory, yeah, and we get to jam again.
Speaker 2:I actually I was thinking about it I was yesterday how it's been just about two years Since Ed Ed hosted a weekly chat In the discord and you and I are the only two to show up for the entire summer, every week, everybody.
Speaker 3:I was just glad you did.
Speaker 4:Dude, and it gave me like a break of like something to do. You know, but I had to do but something that it was nice, just got the hangout mark. It was so much fun intro there yeah dude. I know that's crazy that's, it's good.
Speaker 1:It feels good, though it doesn't feel bad. It feels good.
Speaker 4:It's like, oh, longer term friendships you know, what I mean, it's like it did, though it did.
Speaker 1:Now we all tell you what we all have children now that's true, man the updates, the updates right for a couple people that were hanging out with us, and we'll invite some people on, probably for other episodes this season. But, mark, you have the biggest update, the absolute biggest.
Speaker 2:What do?
Speaker 1:you want to share?
Speaker 2:When we first started talking in Discord, like two years ago, I remember staying up late one night and you guys were just talking about your kids and I remember even asking I can remember the uh, the pfp, that you had craig, and I remember just I didn't know who you were that I just remember seeing that little digital character and asking you about kid stuff and you're like man, it's totally worth it. I said we were thinking about it. Uh, we got very fortunate that we decided we would start trying. Um and I don't know if it's good or bad, it happened on the first try, wait a minute.
Speaker 1:Is it sophomoric of me to be like I wanted to be like yeah you did, yeah you did, yeah you did. That's called strong C Dude. I like the thing about it.
Speaker 4:I hate the euphemism. I hate the euphemism, all of it.
Speaker 2:All of it around it all but it bugs me, makes me uncomfortable. Why I like it, the oh no, it's great. I mean so yeah, we it's yeah, everything time worked out well that we're not actually seeing patients this year, right time worked out so well that like baby came literally like the day finals were happening. So we're just kind of on a summer break. I mean, the baby bonding has been amazing, being able to be home the two of us and not having to work, really like it's been like timing worked out perfectly so, which is great, because chrissy went her whole life without wanting to have kids. So for somebody who didn't want to have kids, like I'm glad it worked out this way. Oh, oh, hell yeah, because she's instantaneously changed and so am I. But like it's been an amazing journey. So thank you guys for even giving me the emotional support to get started and the whole way Like it's been incredible.
Speaker 1:Mark's giving us flowers.
Speaker 4:Ed, Look at this, I'm going to get all rosy I mean you know, you make your own decision to have a kid man, happy that you did it because it's awesome, and you now let another person gets to experience how cool it is. You know, really is what it comes down to. It's right. It's like it is one of those things that people are always like oh, you don't, you don't know, until you have it and you're like shut up, shut up, you gotta, you gotta you gotta be in.
Speaker 2:But it's life changing. Oh, like you know, you know you'll, you'll look at that baby like so differently, like we're skeptical and all that. But it's crazy, like literally the minute they're born, like your life changes, your perspective changes, you love this person, like it's hard to even explain it. Yeah, you know, other than we were super skeptical and you guys were right. I mean it's, it's an instant. Yeah, it's crazy.
Speaker 1:No, I mean, it's so cool to have a thread, like we have a chat thread. I wish that, upon all that, you could have a cool thread that you could go to regularly. Of course, we get to do this every once in a while too, but it's been a long time. It's been a long time since we did it, but we get to stay connected. I'll say that I just know more about what's going on in y'all's lives, which I love, which I love. I mean, I'm now taking extra effort on purpose, Like I want to. I want to spend more digital time with friends. I'm trying to like schedule Zooms, Kind of inspired by us doing that more frequently. I was like, shit, yeah, we're getting older so it's harder to stay connected.
Speaker 2:It is older so it's harder to stay connected. It is and I think I think ed even mentioned this you know when we were first like hanging out and everybody thinks the crypto space is like you know, place to make money. But really like I found the some of the best friends in my life here and it's just a proximity thing, right like you get older and you're only going to see people within your area most likely.
Speaker 2:But being able to meet people all over the country or the world and become friends really quickly is something you can't experience. Like it's crazy. Also, while having that mission of, like you know, trying to make money on the side like it's a fun thing because it's like a goal that you're all united in and brings you closer, that you're all united in and brings you closer.
Speaker 1:Well, I'm glad you brought that up because I wanted to know if Ed or you had heard of this thing I just came in contact with now. Apparently, I got to figure out how to use it, like many of the crypto tools, right? Have you all heard of PolyMarket? Just because something you said triggered it in my mind. The make money brought the connection right. We went to crypto for different reasons, a lot of it being financial, but then when you meet people that you actually vibe with, oh shit. Well, now you also have a, a hobby in common, which is like this beautiful thing.
Speaker 4:But had ed mark shook his head nothing on polymarket it sounds familiar and I definitely see polymarket in turnaround and stuff doing memes and, uh, is it like a betting platform for different kinds of, like well, anything?
Speaker 1:really yes for like for anything like the elections and everything Like. It looks very interesting. They're up to almost 100 million, I guess, in monthly action or something like that, or maybe they're close to that, I don't know. But I was like whoa and they've been around a couple of years and it's like, yeah, well, sports betting here in Florida is legal now Hard Rock is just doing it. So what they've got going could feasibly hit and they're talking about you just betting on probabilities of regular stuff like the elections. But I was very intrigued by that and I did figure. I mean I got to figure out how to use it. I was like I will fuck with this.
Speaker 4:I will absolutely fuck with this yeah, that sounds like something up your alley, you know, you know, make some small small it does sound like little wagers on random yeah, dude, I like that, I like being on like you know there was this site back in the day um nitrogen sports I think or something like that, but it's not around anymore.
Speaker 4:But it was it was the same idea like, like you know, I remember betting on like I think it was Trump, trump winning on the election in 2016, or something like that, and like those kind of odds, you know, or like anything like that sports. It was cool, it was nice to have that. I don't know what happened?
Speaker 1:Could you trade in and out of your positions?
Speaker 4:back. Then you would send Bitcoin in and then just have to withdraw Bitcoin.
Speaker 1:Oh shit, Okay, so you're going old school. It was very simple.
Speaker 4:In the before times. Yeah, yeah, I know Basically that Before all this Bitcoin.
Speaker 1:Before the tech wizardry yeah, wow, a lot of money. Send your money cross your fingers. Yeah, exactly, well, usability is so much easier. I've not done it yet, but I was intrigued because you could trade back and forth, and this episode is not brought to you by Polymarket. I don't know any of them. I just saw it in a damn newsletter, which reminds me of the thing we were texting about. This episode is also not brought to you by HelloFresh, but we desperately need to know, ed, how is your HelloFresh experience going?
Speaker 4:Now we need to know. Just had some vegan mushroom firecracker bowl rice thing, mark you know the dish.
Speaker 2:This is your only non-meat one, right?
Speaker 4:Yeah, and I had ordered meat, but I was like this is so involved, I don't want to put the chicken in it. I might even put the chicken in it, I'll just make sure for something else.
Speaker 2:so oh yeah, you said you did add that some of it's a lot of work, bro, so I'm surprised.
Speaker 4:Here's what I'm surprised at, as someone who is not paid by hello fresh, is that the vegetables are fresh like days later. That's what's like. I'm like. You know, there was, I will say, the first one I had, like the peppers weren't super fresh, but generally speaking, like I just I just pulled out some carrots, some scallions, some you know a bunch of other stuff and it was like super fresh. I was like all right, dude, all right. So it's been great, though I like it because it's cheaper than going out and, you know, even though it's not healthy per se, it's still healthier than going out and it's so it's like it's like a middle ground between wanting to just straight up shop and cook for yourself and go out.
Speaker 4:You know.
Speaker 1:That's. I'm going to clip it and send it to him as a gift. I'll say you know what we know. We know you're not sponsoring this show, but this is what real people, not the celebrities that are reading a script this is actually the experience people are having. Feel free to share it and then we can talk.
Speaker 3:You know what I mean.
Speaker 4:Not brought to you by HelloFresh. Is that your HelloFresh experience?
Speaker 2:It is. I think that we. It seems expensive, I think any meal service. We've tried a bunch of meal services and it seems expensive. But then when you think about like, anytime you go to the grocery store you're going to buy some random things. They're just walking around and you're probably going to buy too much and not use it all, cause you know we don't meal prep, so it's not exact science. So this ends up just saving us so much money and it allows us to try different things.
Speaker 2:I mean, we're vegetarian, so we don't do any of the meat ones. And when we first started they had like one or two vegetarian options, so it was tough. But now I think each week we have like 10 options to choose from. So, vegetarian options. So it was tough, but now I think each week we have like 10 options to choose from. So that's great. They grew that. They grew the hell out of it. Yeah, my question to you is now that you've had one that's a vegetarian meal, are you going to be ordering more of them? Are you just going to stay?
Speaker 4:all, I'm open to it. I don't care, I don't have, uh, I don't care if it's meat or vegetarian, as long as it's like delicious, you know what I mean. Like I don't that one of the I will say it's good yeah there was a uh when I used to live down in bisbee arizona.
Speaker 4:There was this uh, vegetarian like well, vegetarian place, all right, and they had these burritos. I just remember one time or twice even I went there and got this dude. It was like unbelievable. So it's not that vegetarian food is bad or I would avoid it or anything, just you know, to prefer meat. It's just that I feel like it's more expensive to do really well and harder to find to do really well, especially especially up in like rural areas where I live. You know what I mean so. But but when it is done well, it's like amazingly good, you know.
Speaker 1:I've had some.
Speaker 2:I think that. Yeah, I think it takes a little bit more creativity, although I know AK has been showing all his like grilling photos and everything and I know that takes a lot grilled veggies, though I know I'm putting something. Yeah, they're so good. You ever grill avocado.
Speaker 1:That's our favorite see, that's the hack that you taught me. I hadn't had that, I had never had it until we ate that. I believe in New York.
Speaker 2:Yes.
Speaker 1:Take an avocado and slice it Just olive oil, salt and pepper.
Speaker 2:Three minutes on the grill and it's like a buttery mashed potato. It's so good. I love buttery.
Speaker 4:I love a fully loaded mashed potato. Don't get me. You know, at a steakhouse I'll get a fully loaded mashed potato. I'm not shy.
Speaker 2:Try that grilled avocado this summer. It's so good, all right.
Speaker 1:I second, third and fourth that, and I also had, not with Mark, but when I was in LA and I'm probably going to ask her to go back to this place we went to some vegan or vegetarian place. I went with my aunt in Beverly Hills and they did like you ever been to one of them restaurants and done like the seafood tower. Well, mark, no, because he doesn't eat the meat, but, ed, you've seen these like the seafood tower type appetizer. They did it with all different types of mushrooms, but some of these mushrooms, bro, tasted like meat. They like the texture, tasted like meat, the texture.
Speaker 1:It was like lobster tempura. Yeah, the texture, the mouthfeel. I was like holy shit. I dipped it in butter. They set it up, but it was all vegan or whatever. I want to go back there. It's really like what you guys just said. If you got skill in what you're putting together, this shit could be phenomenal. If you're just in what you're putting together, this shit could be phenomenal, right. But if you're just doing like what my lazy ass does, you know, you throw the bag in the microwave or you throw it in a pot and you're like ah, now I'll eat it.
Speaker 1:I'll begrudgingly eat it, but I'm not. My wife makes like good tasting vegetables. I'm just making vegetables and eating them because I know they're good. I'm just making vegetables and eating them because I know they're good. I'm a bad cook, by the way. I'm a bad cook. That's another thing. That.
Speaker 4:HelloFresh. Does that's cool? It's like, yeah, I'm similar to you, right, is that I'll? Well, at least like it sounds like I'll just make vegetables, just make vegetables, you know generally speaking, like whatever. Steamables, don't even care, yeah, whatever. But this makes you like make vegetables, you know, and it's nice dude, like it's pretty cool man, you know, I feel like I'm eating better than I have in a long time.
Speaker 2:just, oh, definitely stuff, you know, yeah yeah, you said it's not that healthy, but it is pretty healthy. Like there's not too much you're frying in it, I don't know the meat ones.
Speaker 4:How that is no, I just mean like it's not necessarily like portion control. I don't know, I don't know, you know, it's just, but that like I don't know I don't know it doesn't. It's not like diet food, you know, I mean, it's just no food, definitely not fresh food, that's all yeah it's just fresh.
Speaker 1:yeah, definitely not diet food, I, I agree it is. It's fresh and it says hello.
Speaker 4:This segment is not brought to you. Hello, it's delivered.
Speaker 2:It's fresh. Yes, Ed you got to put your promo code in the bottom. Oh my God.
Speaker 1:You know what?
Speaker 3:How about we'll put Ed's promo code in the show notes, because you'll save fresh, but no, I think it saves the other person money? I will not.
Speaker 1:I think it does remember no remember how much you said oh, you're right, you're doing a good deal. You're doing a good deal for my 130 extra dollars oh hey, dgen tips are down, so you're tipping in hello fresh right oh, you also have to explain how to order ed Ed.
Speaker 4:Oh, dude Ed explain the quantity. Dude, I didn't get that. Oh, you had too many. It kept letting me add, but it didn't even like. It was just like add another recipe, one second, oh how many did you get? Just like add another recipe. And I was like, okay, well, here's the thing is. The misunderstanding is, as I subscribed to it, I had the misunderstanding. I thought that I would select a bunch of recipes that I liked and then it would send me from those recipes I didn't realize I was legit, just ordering.
Speaker 4:You were straight ordering the ordering, yeah, and so I kept adding recipes that I thought that I liked and I added like eight of them, and then I was like I don't know, I got preoccupied, I thank God.
Speaker 4:And then, like a couple of days later, it shipped and I was like oh, oh, oh, no, dude, dude, I got eight bags. I mean unbelievable. Every one of those things with meat too. So like I mean, this is a lot of food, dude, as you know, probably. And so eight bags, two boxes, and it was uh, which should have been $250. And it was like 130 bucks because of your discount. So I got eight bags of food.
Speaker 3:That's $130.
Speaker 4:Dude, it was crazy.
Speaker 3:We still got it.
Speaker 4:It's still fresh which is why I'm saying this, because I just made that and I was like dang this carrot scallion, it's all like super fresh Still. We got it last Friday.
Speaker 2:I tell you what it was. I'm impressed with that too, because when I tried to order something for you on Amazon, I could have it to me the next day and it wasn't going to come to you for like five days. Oh yeah, oh yeah. And for like food, for food to be that fresh, getting to you all the way out in the middle of nowhere like that's impressive I think it comes from phoenix.
Speaker 4:I think phoenix just bombs up here I was impressed they gotta have I? Uh, you know if you stare before I've ordered those cinnamon buns or whatever. Like I'm flown in from new jersey and I'm like shocked at the same day. Like comes in, flies in from jersey, jersey, like Phoenix, phoenix it's right on the. You know the transport, the food like transport industry is insane Logistically Like I don't know how they do it.
Speaker 1:Dude Respect. Thank you. I think it's incredible, though, Cause you, you there's like a website. You could go to get many different types. Now they'll like Uber style, take it from all around. That's it. What's it called Gold Belly?
Speaker 3:That's right, that's it, gold Belly it was good dude, it was good I've done Deli from them and something else. What'd you do From Annie Bros, or something?
Speaker 1:No, from New York. The Manny Bros is from more York neck of the woods. Yeah, we did Cats, okay, okay okay, okay, I've been to cats too with David. Yeah, yeah, yeah, when we go to New York, we do that. That's what, mark.
Speaker 3:Smith said I know.
Speaker 4:I don't like when I bite a sandwich.
Speaker 2:Hermannies wasn't near you.
Speaker 4:Pittsburgh. I'm from Philly, that's, so six hours might as well be a whole different universe, guys.
Speaker 3:I don't like this guys.
Speaker 2:yeah, that's so six hours You're so different Might as well be a whole different universe Guys?
Speaker 1:Yeah, that's true, you're from the same state.
Speaker 2:Is there a big rivalry between the same state of having like cheese steaks versus your Permanente brothers?
Speaker 4:I think more so. The issue is that I went to Penn state, which was in the middle of the state, and so half the state was Steelers fans, half the state was Eagles fans and and so half the state was Steelers fans, half the state was Eagles fans, and then you had sprinkling of like Giants fans, but also the Steelers. I went from 2005 to 2009 and the Steelers, I think, won like two Super Bowls in that time. It was terrible. It was a terrible time period, a dark time in professional sports.
Speaker 1:Eagles history fans head.
Speaker 4:Dark times, my, my, my. So I was in a fraternity. My the brothers were like during our hell week, like I think our hell week we got in. If I remember correctly here it was like right in the beginning of February, so like right around the Super Bowl, and yes, because I had to clean up for the Super Bowl as one of my. But anyway, damn it, that sounds bad. That sounds bad dude anyway long story short they PT'd us.
Speaker 4:They PT'd us like one of the dudes came in here. I just remember him yelling one for the thumb, one for the thumb for, like another Super Bowl ring. I think they got six or something like that. And oh dude, we're all like oh, life is miserable, this is the worst. And he's just cheering. Damn the Steelers fans, damn it they are.
Speaker 2:I know we went. I went to a small college in Cleveland and there were a ton of people from Pittsburgh there and it was not fun. That's tough for you. Yeah, a little different miserable, miserable.
Speaker 1:I still don't like them. I don't dislike them the same way I don't like them. Well, he's got a different Miami thing. We have a quote, unquote, rivalry, right, right. So you same way I don't like him. Well, he's got a division over there. Connection. Yeah, we've got the state. We have a quote unquote rivalry right, right.
Speaker 2:So you, there's a rivalry, there's a division rivalry you have a real rivalry, but there's no real rivalry if you can't win your, your, your team was on the up and up, but right now yeah, you're doing better, though chubbs coming back chubbs coming back about that stuff.
Speaker 4:Man, yeah, that'll be, I don't know about that stuff man yeah that'll be nice. Chubb's crazy, that'll be crazy.
Speaker 1:But you guys are going to be great. I'm very high on him and I'm high on Anthony Richardson Anthony.
Speaker 4:Richardson's awesome defense.
Speaker 1:I think the Browns are going to have a strong year. Did you hear Justin Jefferson just got?
Speaker 4:Yeah, scott, yeah, yeah he did, he did I hate the Eagles Guaranteed they could have drafted him Upon signing.
Speaker 1:Oh, we drafted Jalen Rager. No, I didn't realize. Yeah, he you didn't.
Speaker 2:I don't know who that is.
Speaker 4:Exactly, he's fine but he's not Justin Jefferson. No, he's not fine. But the worst part was we're all watching the draft going like Justin Jefferson, like we all wanted Jefferson. Everyone's texting, yeah, like Justin Jefferson, and he's here. Then they pick Jalen Rager and then the Vikings text.
Speaker 1:Howie blew it. You're saying Howie blew it.
Speaker 4:Howie blew it dude. They blew it dude. Howie's the man, so don't get me wrong, but he did blow that one. That is a big miss, that happens almost every draft. Well, now we have Devontae Smith and AJ. Brown Devontae.
Speaker 1:Smith. Yeah, AJ Brown, you got a sick duo. We're good now. We're not worried. Now you have an absolute sick duo.
Speaker 4:Jalen Hurts could be a liability.
Speaker 1:What, what, who said that? Whatever.
Speaker 2:What are you going to do, man? All of our teams play each other this year, right, do they?
Speaker 1:Do we?
Speaker 2:I know the Browns play both the Eagles and the Dolphins.
Speaker 1:I don't know if the Finns play the Eagles. I'm going to Green Bay, I think guys for a game.
Speaker 2:Are you really that's?
Speaker 1:cool yes.
Speaker 2:David, who are you going to see in Green Bay?
Speaker 1:Well, I think either the Cardinals or the I can't remember. I can't remember. It's in October, I'm pretty sure or the.
Speaker 3:Texans.
Speaker 1:I don't know what That'd be a great game. That one might be not the one.
Speaker 3:We might be going to the Cardinals.
Speaker 1:I voted Texas, but I'm not sure we're going to go up there, I'm going to support my man who's a big Packer fan and I think Jordan loves a stud Heck. Yeah, It'll be fun.
Speaker 2:And you're going when it's still warm out, before it gets to be wintertime.
Speaker 4:I'll watch any professional game. There's a little bit of warmth yes, you want to give me tickets to any football game. I went to a.
Speaker 1:Bucs game. Last year Exactly. I liked it. My buddy took me to a Bucs game.
Speaker 4:I think he's taking us to another one this year, yeah.
Speaker 1:Well, I will say I'm a little bougie of, I don't want to sit all the way up. I will not do that, I'd rather watch it from a bar if I was going to be. I don't want to be in the bleeders.
Speaker 4:What I've noticed is, and you know, when I used to go to the link back in the day, you know the, you know Eagle stadium or whatever is even the bleeders Like it was a great view of the field and we would always be like we would comment, like me and our friends would be like dang, like you know, probably just cope, but it was good, but I, but I don't like that, I don't like the height it scares me that's hard cope yeah it's
Speaker 2:hard as hell, dude, because it scares me too. I agree, oh, I agree, I agree I don't like being up there.
Speaker 3:I don't like the way I feel I can't see shit, dude.
Speaker 4:they have the, the types that like or like're underneath, like if you're in a clubhouse, you're underneath an area where, like, it's built to shift and you can see like a rock and move it. No thanks, dude, Do you guys see that stuff? Did you ever see that, Dude?
Speaker 1:if you give a look, I have seen that stuff. You don't have to have overhangs, I'm not interested yeah.
Speaker 3:They have overhang where people were like you know, exceeded. And then the stuff you know, these civil engineers or whatever, built it. Oh, oh.
Speaker 4:Mark, you were frozen like this and chalking off.
Speaker 3:I thought you were so impressed with my story.
Speaker 4:All right.
Speaker 2:He was. I need to figure out how to do that. It was good. We went to see the Browns play in SoFi Stadium. See the Browns play in SoFi Stadium play the Rams last year.
Speaker 3:Lower Bowl. I agree with you. We're going to one game out there with good seats.
Speaker 2:That stadium is impressive.
Speaker 1:Oh yeah.
Speaker 2:The new ones.
Speaker 1:I haven't been to SoFi.
Speaker 2:You're going to LA when, in August, yeah so I won't see any of it.
Speaker 1:Now there's a chance. I don't know if there'll be some sporting event that I could try to go to. It would be WNBA.
Speaker 2:How long are you going to be out there?
Speaker 1:Um six days. I got the VCon, I got my ticket on base.
Speaker 3:They dropped it on base.
Speaker 2:Nice.
Speaker 4:How much was it Wow?
Speaker 1:In secondary volume. Okay, I think 0.03. I think 0.03.
Speaker 2:Oh, so much cheaper than what.
Speaker 1:A year or two ago, how far we've fallen, wow. Well, I think it's going to be interesting, because attendance is not going to be huge and he's, I don't know. I'm going to be intrigued either way, because they're going to have speakers and they're going to have shit going on. But what weekend is that? It is the 9th, I think. Let me see here it is the 8th, 9th, 10th or 9th, 10th or 9th, 10th, 11th. Yeah, vcon, let me see it. It again. I expect they didn't put out the speakers yet I don't think.
Speaker 1:Oh no, maybe they did. Maybe they did. Yeah, they do. So does it have anyone super famous? Ariana Huffington, gary, not seeing as many, oh, howie Mandel.
Speaker 2:Some famous Facebook social media people How's?
Speaker 4:the world going.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 4:I'm down for some Bobby's World, bro. I love this show.
Speaker 1:Definitely not as star-studded as years past. I love it too Back when Howie had hair dude.
Speaker 3:You had a great time last year, though.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I plan on. You know they have a lot of events and stuff around so if I can pop into some things see if some of the people I met the last year and the year before are still around. You know I do. I go at this stuff from more of a business approach. Right Of seeing, you know is there networking opportunities to be had. So which has worked out, which has worked out a little bit, so we'll see.
Speaker 2:We'll see what happens. That'll be fun. I'm excited for you. You always have such a good time when you can just be like floating around networking.
Speaker 1:Well, yeah, and I like to learn like some booths will be there with some companies and stuff, so that'll be fun for me. He always has usually like a garage sale area set up that's got collectibles. I love collectibles. I don't buy any. Well, maybe this year I will, who knows but like it's cool. Like from that perspective, I bought merch for my kid, stuff like that. That's exciting. I'll enjoy that, but I don't. I definitely do not think it's going to be a whole lot of exciting NFT chatter to be a whole lot of exciting nft chatter.
Speaker 2:The times have changed man well. We were actually considering going out. My brother had a baby in march and we were thinking of going the first weekend of august down there to visit. But maybe we'll have to go the second weekend of august. He's in. Uh, I can't. I'm blanking on it now. It's one of the areas.
Speaker 1:But near there.
Speaker 2:Long Beach. He's in Long Beach.
Speaker 1:I don't know how far that is, because geography is my weakness, but let's sort it out. It's not far, dude.
Speaker 4:I'm not a good estimator when people are like that.
Speaker 3:How far?
Speaker 4:is that how many football fields I'm like the worst with those things, hey.
Speaker 4:If you want to spend a day at vconn, you're not far from uh la yourself that's true, I know, I know, you know we we kind of decided this summer is that we're gonna? I think we're staying in state, because eddie doesn't want to go out of state, he does not like to fly, which he's like a man after my own heart, and and it's a balance though, because I want him to experience- stuff Right yeah. But I mean, I'm also like oh, I don't. I too don't like traveling, I don't like traveling.
Speaker 2:Don't get to a point.
Speaker 4:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1:Road trips though.
Speaker 4:What about road tripping it? He, he, he doesn't like road trips. I'm the same kind of way. Obviously it's funny, but I want to make sure he does get experiences.
Speaker 1:No, some people do not like travel yeah.
Speaker 2:Did he pick anything fun for yesterday today?
Speaker 4:Oh my gosh. What's hilarious about that is that our day was very normal for the most part, which goes to my mom's theory.
Speaker 2:Really.
Speaker 4:When I was talking to my mom, she was like well, is that any different than his normal day, which goes to my mom's theory? When I was talking to my mom and she was like well, does he she's like, is that any different than like his normal day? And I was like alright, mom, fair, fair, mom, fair enough, dude oh, that it's yes day, every day for him yeah, he's spoiled and whatever, which is you know. That's cool. I'm happy for it. I want to spoil my own kid. That's what I'm here for.
Speaker 2:so I want to spoil my own kid.
Speaker 4:That's what I'm here for.
Speaker 2:I know that's what my mom said. She works in the NICU out here. She said you can't spoil a newborn. So we have an issue where our baby pretty much only sleeps in our arms.
Speaker 1:That's the way you can do it. He still sleeps in us a lot.
Speaker 4:Who cares? I love the fact that I can sleep with my kid and that you know, like there's a time where he's not going to do that anymore and because what 30 year old do you know? That's these other parents like it's going to end, right, you know, and in that time you don't get back and it's just like so I'm embracing it and it's if I miss out on a movie, or sarah's, and she knows that's just how it goes.
Speaker 1:I love the closeness of it. Ultimately, historically, it's like people got away from that, which sucks. People were always like that before. Families always used to sleep together. It was more out of necessity or whatever, and then affluence brought more rooms to houses and things like that. There are still many cultures currently around the world that families sleep together. So I think I hate that it got a bad rap in America Because again we you know Melco sleeps and we lay with him and stuff like that. So you know, I'm very pro the pendulum swing experience, because I think about it just like you.
Speaker 1:Yes, yes, it's a moment in time. It's a moment in time. Moment about it. Just like you, yes, yes, it's a moment in time. It's a moment in time. If you're only going to have one kid, like us, I'm taking in every.
Speaker 3:Yeah, dude.
Speaker 4:Please live with me until you're 30. I don't care, dude, I'll have my best friend here and this is great, you know whatever.
Speaker 2:That's awesome.
Speaker 1:I do think it is cool to like that perspective you've got, ed, especially as your son's older than mine. Even so, it's like you want to spend time with them, right? The boomers gave such a bad rap to parenting Like it seemed like it was a terrible experience for them. Yeah. When really it's this cool thing if you have a good approach.
Speaker 4:Yes, yeah, and I'm like, I'm blessed, of course, that my son's favorite hobby is like my favorite hobby, of course, but um, yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 3:I already think that's awesome Like he's.
Speaker 4:He's eight, he's already. That's like what 10 years from 18. So I'm already, you know, I'm already like halfway there. I don't want to think about it. All right Anyway, Right Anyway no, don't think about it.
Speaker 1:Don't think about it, yeah push that away.
Speaker 4:And just how do you like fishing? The other day, live in the now, yes, great dude, and, and uh, you know his, his bumpa, which is what he calls his grandfather uh, caught a nice big old brown trout and we caught a bunch of other rainbow trout and it was. It was good man. It's. Fishing on the reservation is like, is the way to do it around here, you know, don't? I guess it's a little pro tip for people out in the well in general, I bet anywhere that there's a reservation it's got an official reservation than the state state land nearby, cause people, less people buy the permits and you know they're. They're awesome, is there?
Speaker 4:like anything you have to do to get a permit, you just pay the money just pay the money, just pay the money and I think, like for me it's $10 a day or $100 for a calendar year. So a lot of times we'll just give $100 for a calendar year.
Speaker 2:That's not bad at all.
Speaker 4:No, dude. And then now there are some lakes that are like special permit like, where you have to pay $25 or $30. But you can also catch like trophy fish in there. So you to pay $25 or $30, but you can also catch trophy fish in there. It's cool, dude, there's something for everyone up here. I love fishing. Do you guys fish?
Speaker 1:Cannot say that I do with any regularity, but my son likes to pretend, so I am looking at toddler or small kid reels to try to get me started Because I used to do it occasionally at a local pond and things like that, but it was not regular and I went out with a few friends on boats but it didn't speak to me as a forever activity, but I'd done it. What about you, Mark?
Speaker 2:Yeah, the last time I went fishing was probably like 15 years ago. We went deep sea fishing. That was fun. It's obviously not something you can do all the time. I could see how it would be really peaceful. I love fishing If you're just doing lake fishing. That'd be peaceful.
Speaker 1:It could definitely be. I see other things as more peaceful, though. Like a massage.
Speaker 4:Like a massage.
Speaker 2:Like a massage. Alright, fair enough.
Speaker 4:It's not that kind of peaceful. It's like peaceful if you want to go with your son and have something to do and get some wildlife in there, and then it's peaceful and it's nice. And then you know, whenever I go I have to buy two dozen night crawlers, Like one for bait and one for him to like play with in the dirt. You know, because otherwise he'll take all mine and they're gone so he'll put them worms.
Speaker 1:that's awesome catch crayfish or crawdads, whatever you want to call them, but it's good, dude. Oh nice, that's cool. Where do you get do? How do you catch those?
Speaker 4:just a net dude, usually they steal your bait, yeah. So, like they hide under rocks, like right around the shoreline, and, uh, and when you like, you know when you're well, it depends wherever they're at. Really, they just hide under rocks and they'll sneak out and and grab onto your worm and then, like, tuck it under and grab it, start trying to eat it. And if you, if you pull it slowly enough, they'll stay on the line and like, reel them all the way in and, yeah, use a net or just like fling them over. Um, but I don't know if you've ever like, if you boil crabbing immediately, I don't eat those.
Speaker 4:But if, like, if you go, if you go crabbing in like the bay for like I we used to go for like blue I think it was blue crab um, outside out, you know, in new jersey or whatever, um, it's the same thing like you would literally go out in the boat, you would tie a bunker head like a dead fish head, literally to a wire right and you'd literally take a piece of rope and you'd drop it into the water and then you'd just wait and then you'd try to pick it up and feel if it was a little bit heavier and if it was yeah, you had to slowly, like you were sneaking up on something, pull it all the way up, otherwise it would drop off the line and then, as soon as it gets close enough to the water, net it. Or, you know, for anyone who hasn't gone crabbing in this crowd, this is a little skill, a little more skill than I realized dude, it's crabbing, so I mean I'm sure you could also just put down a, you know, a crab trap or whatever.
Speaker 4:But like that's the way we did it growing up, it was just fun, you know yeah, you were being much more artful, you're being much more. Yeah, it's, it's fun pulling up big crabs, like no, that's all it's like, it's just fun go ahead.
Speaker 1:Oh, I believe that. I believe that. No, I will. The few times I did fish it was more fun to get a bigger one. There's like a no. Well, the few times I did fish it was more fun to get a bigger one. There's like a competitive edge to that.
Speaker 4:Dude, people put weights. There was a guy I read this in the news like he was trying to win a trophy.
Speaker 2:Oh yeah, it was right over here, was it?
Speaker 4:He put weights inside the fish like oh, scumbag boo, they put weights in their fish. Yeah, what's that?
Speaker 2:about Boo boo, get them out of here.
Speaker 4:I think they got charged with a felony for that A felony People respect the hunting and fishing Everybody was so upset. Yeah, you don't mess with hunting and fishing dude.
Speaker 2:There were two guys that were adding weights.
Speaker 4:I believe Ohio.
Speaker 1:Arizona, there's a lot of good outdoorsmen. I've got a. Arizona there's a lot of good outdoors Massive industry. I've got a friend I just learned I was my naivete, or whatever it's called. I was naive about like she works and builds graphics for these outfitting companies or outfitters. I had to Google that and hearing you, ed knows, but I had to Google what the hell is that occupation? And it's people that like can set you up for outdoor activities, like that's what they are.
Speaker 1:I was like what, yeah, but like yeah, for hunting or for setting up equipment, like and these are thriving businesses. It feels like a whole different culture. And it's my friend who also does graphic design. She's phenomenal, she's like a creative director of mine and she was saying like I love how we live in like two different worlds about that. Like I didn't even know what that was and there's whole massive industry built around it, like massive industry.
Speaker 4:It is a whole different like culture, like there's. You know, my students will be gone for like a week, maybe a week and a half at a time, because it's elk season or whatever. You know, it's just part of the normal accepted and, like you said, you know, like I have students who graduated.
Speaker 1:I think that's cool. I think that's cool shit.
Speaker 4:Dude. People will pay tens of thousands of dollars for good paid guides Like good hunts, it's crazy.
Speaker 1:Oh, it's massive Mark. Good hunts, it's crazy.
Speaker 4:Especially on the reservation.
Speaker 3:You're not even allowed to go on there.
Speaker 4:unless you have the special permit, You're paying $30,000, $40,000, $50,000, I bet to go on a nice elk, a bull hunt, I would imagine.
Speaker 1:For sure it's a money game too, because these guns and the equipment to do it, well, they're not cheap. Not cheap. You know what I mean. Like and it's cool. It's like golf. It's like golf people that get really into golf it gets expensive, it's. It's an interesting hobby and there it's its own culture. It's its own culture. We've got a lot of cultures, ed, I want to be respectful of your time and wrap this season two, episode one here that we brought and I do have to end with what I would call a correction of my own lack of reading. I was bagging on the speakers for VCon because I didn't think they were celebs, but I was wrong. They're not celebs, they're like CEOs and founders of massive fucking companies State Farm, fucking Therabody, tropicana, h&r Block. I was like oh, it's just business-y now.
Speaker 1:It's just all business stuff. So I just wanted to correct myself and I'm going to go listen to the founder of Bluey. Since my kid watches Bluey, that dude's going to be there. I want to hear about him. He executive produced Bluey, which I think is cool. Love it. So anyway wrapping it all around. We'll get some more episodes out in the near future. Drop a comment, subscribe to a thing, whatever it may be. Have a great rest of your week, month, year, till the next time.
